I had made the BIGGEST mistake by putting on sunscreen and an expert told me that was why I was getting sp0ts.

It doesn’t matter if you are going to be on the beach or in the mountains, if you skip this step it is very likely that you will return with traces of the sun on your skin.

I’ve been using sunscreen religiously every day since I was 16. My mom always told me that if she didn’t do it, I would get spots on my skin when she grew up.

Even though her voice was in my head, especially when I went to the

beach, for some reason I always came back from vacation stained. But I didn’t understand why, since she applied my skincare routine like every day and always finished with a layer of sunscreen.

Without knowing it, I was making a big mistake. ‘Whenever you are going to go out in the sun or snow, instead of putting on the normal routine that you are used to and then the sunscreen, you have to wash, tone and then put on one or two inhibitors,’ a cosmetologist graduated from Medical Aesthetician and with more than 30 years of experience. “Dark spots occur when the skin produces excess melanin, the natural brown pigment that gives our skin its color,” explains board-certified dermatologist .

‘The exact reason dark spots appear ranges from acne scars to excessive sun exposure, aging and nutritional deficiencies.’ A solution to avoid this are the inhibitors that dermatologist mentions. ‘It is these products that will stop the melanocyte from working, because they inhibit an enzyme called tyrosinase. Once you apply them and put your sunscreen on top of them, there is no way you will get stains again.’

The same applies to snow holidays, because even if you see a beautiful sky, UV rays penetrate the skin. “The risk of sunburn may also increase when engaging in winter activities where one is exposed to higher altitudes and additional UV light is reflected off surfaces, such as snow for skiers and snowboarders,” explains dermatologist.

If you don’t know where to start when it comes to inhibitors, dermatologist suggests some with vitamin C. ‘Of course there are qualities of vitamin C’, warns the founder of Spa. ‘The problem with many commercial vitamins C is that they are not ascorbic acid as such, they are magnesium phosphate and those do not work as inhibitors.’ So, first things first, we must read the labels carefully and make sure that we are using an ascorbic acid vitamin C.

According to the expert, there is another step you can add. ‘I like to put on vitamin C plus the Daily Power Defense from the same line and then I put on my sunscreen on top of that.’ Dermatologist recommends applying sunscreen every three hours with a watch in hand. ‘Especially when I go swimming and I’ll be more exposed.’ The American Dermatology Association recommends applying waterproof sunscreens with an SPF 30 or higher and doing so 15 minutes before going out in the sun.

But to avoid stains, things don’t end there. ‘Since no sunscreen can block 100% of the sun’s UV rays, it’s also important to seek shade and wear sun-protective clothing, including a lightweight long-sleeved shirt, pants, UV-protecting sunglasses, and a hat. wide-brimmed. On the latter, dermatologist also agrees, who recommends that: ‘You have to put on a visor and a large visor like golf visors, which are the ones that cover your chest,’ she says for us. Well, conventional visors cover up to half of the face and expose an area that is very prone to staining: the neck and chest. Since I followed your advice, I have not (nor will I) get sun-stained like before.
