Not removing makeup: is it so serious?

Before bed, it sometimes (or often) happens that we are not really motivated to spend 15 minutes removing makeup. But is it so bad not to remove makeup? In fact, makeup isn’t the only concern. Even if you preach natural and only wear concealer, mascara and a veil of powder, pollution, dust, sweat and sebum build up on the skin throughout the day.

When you do not remove makeup, the skin “macerates” all night, suffocated by impurities and makeup – which, moreover, is often either occlusive or aggressive to the skin with allergenic ingredients. Finally, during the night, the skin regenerates, taking advantage of being at rest, and not removing makeup amounts to depriving it of this break.

The results are quickly visible: enlarged pores, irritation, excess sebum, dry patches, acne, etc. So many little worries that can be avoided with perfect make-up removal! So how to remove makeup effectively, to be sure to have clean and fresh skin? Here are our tips.

Removing makeup without cotton for sensitive skin

A question that often arises when removing makeup: can you remove makeup without cotton? Well yes, and for certain skin types, it is even recommended. Rubbing cotton on the skin can irritate sensitive or reactive skin.

There are two options for removing makeup without cotton: with washable wipes, or simply with your fingers. In both cases, the makeup remover must be suitable. For example, removing makeup with micellar water with fingers or wipes risks being quite delicate: too liquid, and the wipe absorbs all the product. It is therefore better to choose a cleansing milk or oil.

Remove makeup with oil to combine gentleness and effectiveness

Removing makeup with oil is, without a doubt, the big makeup removal trend of recent years. Make-up remover oil has many advantages: its fatty substances make it easy to remove even stubborn make-up . A perfect product for fans of waterproof makeup. But not only ! The cleansing oil is also a gentle makeup remover, which helps eliminate impurities while respecting the hydrolipid film. It therefore does not damage the skin’s natural barrier, rather, it strengthens it.

If preconceived ideas suggest that cleansing oil is not suitable for oily skin, this is false. Depending on the oil used as a base, oily skin can benefit from a cleansing oil.

How to remove eye makeup?

Removing eye makeup is a delicate operation. Indeed, it is the part that we often put on the most makeup, but it is also the most sensitive part of the face. The eyelids and the eye contour have very thin skin, which is easily damaged. Gentleness is therefore, again and always, essential.

Soak a cotton pad or wipe with makeup remover and place it on the closed eye, then wait a few seconds. Then wipe gently outwards, without rubbing or pressing too hard. Repeat the operation several times if necessary, always gently so as not to tear off any eyelashes, and to preserve the skin around the eyes.

Removing make-up from the mouth

Just like the eyes, removing makeup from the mouth must be done gently. Even though certain lipsticks, particularly matte lipsticks, can be stubborn, we use the same process as for the eyes: soak the cotton pad or wipe, and place gently on the lips. Wait a bit then wipe. If any makeup remains, pat your lips with the wipe or cotton pad. After removing makeup, rinse your lips well and remember to moisturize them.

Finish removing makeup with a good cleansing

Once the “make-up removal operation” is finalized, cleansing the skin is necessary. It helps eliminate any makeup residue, but also impurities that are not removed with the makeup remover. After a long day, it is better to clean the skin with a cleanser that rinses off, such as gel, cream, or foam. Avoid soap-based cleansers that dry the skin too much.
